After yesterdays nightmare where it didn't stop raining with thunder and lightning and speed course more like a wave sailing venue I was hoping for a better day !!! It didn't start off brilliantly as it was still raining this morning when we woke up in our lovely spot at Peyraic-de-Mer but we made an early start and were on the beach at the wooden jetty in La Franqui at 9:45 :) and there were a few others already there - always a good sign :) We even risked parking on the wet beach and got away with it. With the wind 20 mph + and forecast to drop during the day it was never windy enough for my speedboard but had fun on the Falcon 80 but the wind was up and down and really broad making getting back upwind interesting as you ended a good distance offshore !!! The course was abit bumpy with small surfy waves rolling in every now and the to keep you on your toes but I managed several mile runs and was pleased with the 32 kt one but need to work on my gybes !!! The sun even tried to come out late afternoon :)

Saturday 29th September – Crap, crap, crap day :( rain, rain and more rain windy too!!!

This must have been one of our worst ever days in France :( and we have some crap days in La Franqui . I am beginning to wonder if it’s worth coming all this way to get conditions which never are right – usually too windy and rough for speed sailing :( The weekend forecast earlier in the week seemed okay for a couple of days windsurfing and then a week of light winds but the weather gods again worked against us!!!
We had a good night by the etang near Bages but awoke at a grey day but the wind was picking up so fingers crossed to get windsurfing but as we were exercising the thunder and lightning started over the hills behind Gruissan which was great to watch :) and then as we headed for La Franqui the heavens opened and the rain hasn’t hardly stopped all day – cold too :( We stopped at Sigean for bread and then went to Mc D’s and checked the forecast – crap today – better tomorrow – fingers crossed but not holding my breath !!! Sorted out photo’s on facebook, emails etc and then headed to La Franqui town for luch and which the freeride windsurfers out – it was rough looking more like Cornwall than a speed sailing venue. The rain eased for awhile so I took my camera to the water’s edge but for a high wind spot the standard of windsurfing is pretty average :( We then went and had a look at the wooden pier and the beach was very wet and dodgy to drive on and the only people there were fisherman and lots of surf waves :( Mag and I had a quick walk on the beach but it was miserable and cold so went and had a look at Port Nouville but that was not much better so headed to our favourite spot at Peyriac and the lay-by we park was like a swamp:( so we parked just along on tarmac and had coffee and cake :) Played cards – Mag thrashed me at Phase 10!! And it’s bed time and still tipping it down :)
Tomorrow can only be better – can’t it???
